Well child medical services and educational programs are provided at the Norwalk Health Department and in the community.
Well Child Program
- By appointment.
- No charge for Norwalk residents (nominal fee for out-of-town clients).
- Provides: physical exams; routine immunizations; and tests for hemoglobin, TB, and lead poisoning.
- For children (birth to age 5) who are uninsured or under-insured.
- Referrals are made to other medical and social service agencies as needed.
Maternal / Child Health Nurse Consultant
- Provides information to area nursery schools and day care centers about children's health issues.
- Conducts disease investigations in the event of a communicable disease outbreak in the pre-school community.
- Provides vision and hearing testing for three to five year olds at preschool and day care settings.
- Teaches a bi-monthly medication administration course to preschool providers under the auspices of the Connecticut League for Nursing.
- Conducts home visits to mothers and children who need information about medical and social services in the community.
- Provides educational programs for schools and community groups on request.
