Prevents the occurrence and spread of infectious disease and epidemics by:
educating the public; consulting with medical providers; AND performing disease surveillance, epidemiological investigations, and contact tracing.
- The Health Department acts as contact between state and local health care agencies and providers to prevent diseases.
- Speakers and educational programs are available for schools and community groups.
TB Control Program
- Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of latent (inactive) TB disease with free medication.
- Screens for, educates about, and monitors TB in the community.
- TB skin testing is available, by appointment, to the public for a $30 charge.
- With the report of an active case of TB, program staff will conduct an investigation of the disease within the community.
Communicable Disease Program
- Surveillance of all reportable communicable disease in the Norwalk area.
- Disease investigation and outbreak control of diseases such as rubella (german measles), bacteria meningitis, whooping cough, hepatitis, and others.
