Tick Identification and Lyme Disease Testing:
Citizens need to bring the tick to their local Health Department.Lyme Disease, What to do if you find a tick The Norwalk Health Department will identify the tick. Those ticks identified as Deer Ticks are forwarded to the CT State Agriculture Experiment Station for Lyme Disease testing. This service is free to Norwalk residents, but does have a nominal fee for those who live out of town but choose to bring the tick here. Results of the Lyme testing can be expected to take at least 5 weeks. The presence or absence of Lyme Disease spirochetes in a tick does not necessarily mean that the disease was or was not transmitted to the person bitten. For the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme Disease, contact your primary care physician.

Well Water Potability
Well water is tested for bacterial quality on a fee for service basis. Potability tests are for coliform group bacteria ONLY and results may be used to monitor the bacterial status of the well. This testing does not meet the current CT Department of Public Health regulations for water quality under Section 25-40 of the Connecticut General Statutes. Testing for chemicals and/or minerals requires more extensive procedures and equipment and are unavailable at this laboratory at this time. These tests may be obtained from private laboratories.
